You never realize how good the local news anchormen in Seattle are unless you listen to local news in Missouri, or worse, Alabama. It's like watching a high school class put a show on for Public Access television. Bad doesn't even begin to describe these guys!

Ahh, I'm sitting in a hotel in Kentucky on my way back home to Warrensburg, MO after finally escaping Montgomery. A bit sad to leave though, after 6 weeks I got to know some amazing people and as soon as my flight all starts to bond with eachother, it's over *tear* But, I'm so happy I got the opportunity to meet them! I'm also happy to report that after 7 months of seperation, instead of waiting for our planned reunion at Thanksgiving - Evan flew down and met me in Alabama for a most amazing three-day weekend :P
Now, another day of driving and it's back to work *ugg*...I really hope I'll figure out what I'm supposed to be doing there... At least it keeps me occupied! I'm so happy to be able to get back to my apartment, I've been paying rent for the last three months, but I've only been able to spend about three weeks there!

Southern Guys
Oct. 29th, 2006 | 09:40 am
Southern guys are extremely gentlemanly. They will always hold a door open for a lady in a given situation, open the car door for her, etc. What does this mean if you're me? It means you'll get a guilty pleasure out of opening the door for a Southern guy and watching him look at you confusingly, while he stands in front of the doorway not walking through it. hehe, it's fun :)

Well, I'm sitting in my dorm room at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montegomery, Alabama. I'm here for a six-week sentence..er...I mean school. Basically all Lieutenants are required to attent this school as part of their professional military education, or "PME" as they like to call it. Lucky for me, I have a car. But, there's only so much you can see... The shitty part is Evan came back to Seattle (yay) the same day I had orders to come here *tear* So, I'm going to have to wait until Thanksgiving to see him.
I'm thinking I'm going to try and escape next weekend and visit a friend of mine at Ft. Walton beach (Tydall AFB is only about 3 hours away). Florida, would kick some ass right about now.

Hey all - It's been awhile so I'd thought I'd give a little update. After about a month at Whiteman AFB, MO I drove over to Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio for my level one training. So, here I sit in a business suite outside of Dayton, dying ever so slowly by means of endless powerpoint presentations. Oh joy. I did, however, have a wonderful weekend. A group of us drove to Cincinnati last weekend and had a lovely time getting plastered at a wine tasting at the local winery. I got a fabulous red concord selection to boot. Naturally, we went to the most logical place afterwards - the Cincinnati Zoo. There's nothing like a lil' tipsy monkey watching guys, trust me. Next weekend we'll be heading off to the local Amish communities. I also got the opportunity to go to the base's boxing class with a guy from my class and some of his buds (he's a local) on Monday. Sadly, this has resulting in a head to toe soreness that hasn't been experienced since field training. Why did I agree to go again tonight?

Wow, almost two weeks of being a lieutenant. I no longer have a name. I am simply known as "L.T." or "The L.T.". Not that that's a bad thing, it's just the way it is. Somehow I managed to vollunteer to be the squadron escort for the special olympics softball team we're sponsoring. Tomorrow I get to parade around in my blues (my "nice" non-BDU uniform for those unfamiliar) holding up a giant banner with our team's name and the team behind me for opening ceremonies.
Oh, I forgot to mention - last week the other officer's (excluding my commander, the Major) from my unit were kind enough to take me out to my first girl strip club. Basically, one of the enlisted in our squadron has a wife who was rumored to be a stripper, so we went to see if we could find her. When we got there she was limping out of the club. Apparently she hurt her knee while taking a birthday boy's belt out. Rules are pretty lax in Missouri so they went all nude and um...did some other stuff on stage. The girls were okay...some better than others. Quite a lot of saggy boobs.

I seem to have a knack for being with medical professionals that have very odd names. My old dentist was Dr. Strange. Upon looking at my current appointment card, I realise that I will be meeting someone by the name of Maj Payne. Hmmm...

Well, these past couple weeks have been interesting. Adjusting the military is - unique. I went to medical in-processing today and received 4 immunization shots and had blood drawn. Apparently, the macho world of the United States Air Force likes to use Sesame Street bandaids. I have a matching set of big bird/cookie monster/burt and ernie/elmo print on each arm. My squadron seems like a bunch of good guys, though. We're pretty small with only about 25-30ish people total, half of which are civillians. There are two other female military members in the squadron, one of which is deployed and the other (my sponser, and one of the three other officers there) will be deploying soon. I, unfortunately, am not eligable to deploy until my first promotion - which is usually made after 2 years. I've had some interesting/embarrissing moments already (naturally). My favorite was a few days ago when I was trying to find the financial affars office to get my pay figured out. It's housed in a massively large building that has lots of different groups and subrooms, etc. I was told that the staff that tends the nuclear weapons on this base (not the weapons itself) has its headquarter's office in the building as well. So, basically there's quite a few doors that have alarms and "authorized personnel only and stuff on them. Basically, if you touch them, you get arrested and bad shit happens. I asked a Sergeant where finance was and he pointed to a hallway door. Upon opening it, however, I heard a loud alarm go off. Then, I nearly shitted my pants and said "fuck" to myself about a dozen times - until I was told the fire alarms were being tested. Apparently, It was just a coincidence that they went off when I opened the door.
I'm sure that won't be my only stupid moment :)

Hey everyone! Thought I'd post a little update. I'm in Missouri and officially on active duty as an officer in the US Air Force. I have no idea what I'm doing. But, I'm supposed to go over to Wright-Patterson AFB, OH for training at the end of July.. That's right, since you all are going to such exciting places like Thailand, Japan, and China, I thought - Dayton, Ohio, hell yes hear I come :)
Anyways, I just found an apartment and a REALLY pretty couch to put into it. (I love decorating). Also, Evan should be officially coming back to the states at the end October - YEAH!!!!
Hope everyone's doing well, I miss you guys!

I gave Christina an e-mailed version of the proposal, and looking back on what I wrote in a frantic bit of girliness; it's kind of entertaining. So, here you go!
My e-mail
So, I have been trying to call you all week! Um...Guess who got engaged?
Christina's response
OH MY FUCKING GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oooh, did he propose all spiffy like?
DETAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris
p.s. uh, we are talking about you getting engaged right?
My Response
YES IT'S ME!!! And what's more, due to the whole officer/enlisted thing, we kind
of need to get hitched before I commission, and before he leaves. So, we're
going to do a justice of the peace thing on friday (Just paperwork, however, we
will have a real ceremony when he returns...to make sure all spiffy people like
your fabulous self can/will *I'll make you* be there...etc.) THE RING IS SO
FREAKING AWSOME!!! It's a 1c total weight 3 stone ring...roar! Oh, he was so
cute when he proposed he got cottonmounth and couldn't say what he wanted...he
proposed right when he came off the airplane in his uniform...and so he just
goes like "I've been practicing this for 3 days and I can't remember what I was
going to say, I've botched it up" and he sticks the ring on my finger and hugs
me really really tightly..until his entire family who is watching the whole
transcription start saying "um...hi Evan" and his dad goes "So, what did she
say?" then I tell him "he didn't ask me anything" then Evan's face gets even
more red and he goes "Will ya?" in a rather scared but adorable fashion. I've
been ribbing him now and again (joking, of course) about not getting on his knee
a bit and he gives me a big hug and says "I'm so sorry! I was so nervious!"
Oh my gosh, there's so much more, I have to tell you all details..but I have to
run!

My Spring Break
Mar. 26th, 2006 | 12:15 pm
Sunday Night, 19 Mar 06
Evan comes home for his mid-tour leave. At the airport, Evan proposes. I say yes. I begin break out. How do I tell my parents? Evan wants to go to Las Vegas and elope. The ring is pretty.
Monday, 20 Mar 06
Freak out continues. I tell my Dad. The reaction was much better than anticipated. Basically, since I will be an officer in three months and Evan will be enlisted, unless I get married before I commission, I would not be allowed to see him anymore. This logic impresses the father figure. All is kosher. We look at prices for Vegas...too expensive. I turn in my ring to get it sized.
Tuesday, 21 Mar 06
Freak out continues. I tell my mom. The reaction is much worse that I had expected, with the words "I guess you're still my daughter" utterred about half way through. I tell Evan that I don't think I could get married in Vegas anyways. We buy tickets for Reno instead (but just for fun).
Wednesday, 22 Mar 06
My freak out ceases, excitement and happiness eventually replaces it. Evan and me go to the Kent courthouse and file for our marriage license. $60 cash only, no refunds. There is a three day waiting period before you can complete your nuptials. Oddly enough, pet licenses can be paid by checks. We then proceed to complete the prenuptial agreement.
Thursday, 23 Mar 06, 5:30 AM
Leave for Reno, go see a couple shows that night & enjoy the buffet.
Friday, 24 Mar 06
Reno excursion continues. We see Franz Ferdinand/Death Cab for Cutie show that evening. Lots of liquer. Good times were had by all.
Saturday, 25 Mar 06
Return to Bellevue. Pick up engagement ring and buy wedding bands. Buy some underwear. Secretly look up price of engagement ring online...not bad...
Sunday, 26 Mar 06
Prepare for Spring quarter that begins tomorrow. Still need to schedule something with a justice of peace & tell brother.

cranky
Well, I though I might give a rambling update on what's new in the world of Dawn.
It's the middle of Finals weeks down at the ol' U of W. Great times. I have one tomorrow that I really ought to be studying for. But, it's open notes/book and probably will just consist of a bunch of essays... Of course, I sucked at the midterm... Then the truly dreaded one comes on Thursday morning; Enviromental economies. Sounds interesting, right? Nope... its the, canadian econ professor that really likes to talk about fish production patterns eh. (Granted, if I studied more for this one too and got a better midterm grade, I'd be saying it's the best class ever. But, that's beside the point.)
On the plus side, Evan is scheduled for his mid-tour leave this week :) He gets two weeks as soon as he can make it into seatac; which could be anytime between the 15th and the 20th... hopefully after the last final. So, in honor of the return, today I got my very first Brazillian wax. Freaked me out...completely. The lady was very nice, but the first thing she says when I meet her is "Did you take any pain medication?" Hmmm "Was I supposed to?" I said. "You don't have to, but most of our first timers find it easier. There may be some swelling the first couple days." You know, the areas that you think will hurt the most, seem to be okay.. Personally, I think the bikini line is the most painful. Afterwards, I went home and read about Marilyn Manson and his wife in Vogue magazine.
Other than that, your normal ROTC crap freak out. I've become a planner for our annual joint service event and the stupid outdoor event reservations lady is being a butthead. I also have to report to a Navy dude, oh the humanity!
I need beer.

Although, if I don't accessorize it right, it just looks like I'm little Red Riding hood. I still have no idea how to import images, but take a look at it at this link:

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Now, there are only two times of year I go to Church to appease my mother, Christmas and Easter. This year, I had a few snafoos during Mass... So, from my own experience I would reccommend not committing the following sins:
1. Having your cell phone go off playing "welcome to the jungle" in the middle of the Lord's Prayer
2. Taking the Lord's name in vain as your favorite pair of Nine West pumps breaks as you pass the alter
3. Having to bite your lip to not giggle when you hear the Priest's voice repeatedly crack as he kindly leads the service in song
4. Not being able to stop giggling as your mother's attempts to sing along with the Priest

My dearest Dawn,
I miss you so much. I'm sorry I haven't called or written lately; this is my
fourth day in Pakistan and we have been flying our nuggets off, this is my first
real time off since. I probably won't be able to call you on the phone as there
is only one here for nearly 400 people and I am told it has a 5 to 10 second
delay anyway, but if I can, I would love to hear your voice.
I await your package with much trepidation.
With all my love,
-Evan
